If You Were

I'd never trade all the songs
And all the delicious wrongs
For just one
but
If you were the one
To give me a new sung solitude
We could both sing
I'd play your favorite tune
Reharmonized each time
to the tone of our love alone
And together
expand on a theme
Odes and Sonnets
Only you upon it
and that Fierce Fifth of Freedom
no longer so urgent
A Perfect Second
instead
If you were the bookmark
in every book I've ever read
The signature of a timeless melody
If you
were for me
